The Black Church and Witch, Iceland, 2025

As part of my Gothic landscape collection, I wanted to create an image that features whimsical elements of Halloween. Halloween is my favourite holiday and, as an adult, I have always sought out ways I can incorporate spooky decor into my home that is more mature. Like my other self-inserts in this collection, the witch hat provides anonymity that maintains the emphasis on form and contrast. Moreover, the purpose of the hat is to bring out a subtle playfulness and creativity to this natural scene.
