Up a long gravel road against the backdrop of the ocean stands the Black Church in Búðakirkja, Iceland. This stop was a bit out of the way from the normal Ring road route, but as a lover of all spooky things I had to make the detour. I’m glad I did as it was beautiful in person against the contrast of the sky. The area itself was quiet and comforting despite the dark facade. Only two other cars were present so the space felt expansive and yet intimate at the same time as we all explored this modest space of worship. I have been told this church is even more beautiful in the dead of winter against the snow and plan on going back to capture the contrasting beauty.
